Lizzo lands in hot water over tweet

“Truth Hurts” singer Lizzo just got slapped with a lawsuit by a food delivery driver accusing her of defamation. Lizzo reportedly accused the driver, Tiffany Wells, of stealing her order, posting her name and picture on her Twitter account.

“Hey @Postmates this girl Tiffany W. stole my food,” Lizzo tweeted. “She lucky I don’t fight no more.”

Lizzo apologized the next day, tweeting, “I apologize for putting that girl on blast. I understand I have a large following and that there were so many variables that could’ve put her in danger. Imma really be more responsible with my use of social media and check my petty and my pride at the door.”

But the apology didn’t appease Wells, a driver for Postmates. Wells said that by accusing her of theft to an audience of millions, Lizzo exposed her to humiliation and harassment. Wells denied stealing Lizzo’s food and said the singer had no factual basis for the accusation.

“Lizzo lacked reasonable grounds for any belief in the truth of her statements and acted negligently in failing to determine the true facts,” the lawsuit reads.

This isn’t the first time Lizzo has been in legal trouble this year. Earlier this fall, two songwriter brothers accused Lizzo of plagiarizing parts of “Truth Hurts,” saying they should have received credit for writing some of the lyrics.
