Stewart reveals her former manager told her to hide her sexuality

Kristen Stewart, who has dated both men and women in Hollywood, reveals that she was discouraged from coming out as bisexual in order to protect her career. Stewart said one manager even told her that hiding her sexuality would help her get a part in a Marvel movie.

“I’ve fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favor and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie,'” Stewart told Harper’s Bazaar. “I don’t want to work with people like that.”

Stewart told Harper’s Bazaar that relentless questions about her love life led her and Twilight co-star Rob Pattinson to be ultra-private about their relationship. They broke up and Stewart started dating women. She says she no longer feels pressured to keep her sexual orientation a secret. She said the pressure to appear “straight” in public is “old school.”

“I was informed by an old school mentality, which is — you want to preserve your career and your success and your productivity, and there are people in the world who don’t like you, and they don’t like that you date girls, and they don’t like that you don’t identify as a quote-unquote ‘lesbian,’ but you also don’t identify as a quote-unquote ‘heterosexual.'”
