Kelly Clarkson moves from music to TV with new talk show

Seventeen years ago this week, Kelly Clarkson won the first-ever season of “American Idol.” Now Clarkson is gearing up to host her own talk show on NBC, “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”

Clarkson told Reuters she will be inviting celebrity guests onto the show, as well as “ordinary people.” She said she hopes the show will offer a reprieve from the constant stream of negativity in the news.

“I just want everybody to be here and having a good time and it to be an hour of television that isn’t depressing, like the news. I’d like to see some actors sitting next to some baking champion sitting next to some artists. … So it’s gonna be a mix of celebrity and real people,” Clarkson said.

Clarkson would also like to reunite the original “American Idol” judges who crowned her the winner of the show’s first season in 2002: Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell.

“I love all of them. They’ve always been very supportive of me. Look at all four of us. Nobody knew where we would all be now,” Clarkson said. “Life is so weird, where it leads you, you never know. And I just think it’d be a really interesting show.”

The Kelly Clarkson Show debuts on NBC on September 9.
