Katy Perry Works On Discovering Her True Self

At the 10th Annual DVF Awards at the Brooklyn Museum in New York on April 11, Katy Perry said she has worked hard to find her own personal “voice” — and not necessarily the one she sings with.

“That’s been my journey, to find my voice,” Katy Perry told reporters at the pre-show. “How ironic is it that I’m a singer and I already have one part of my voice? But it’s taken me a long time to find strength in my day to day life. Standing up for myself and feeling like I’m enough, feeling safe, all those things I’ve had to work on. So, I like to be in the company of women who have found their voice.”

At the show, Perry won the Inspiration Award for her charity work and outspoken stance on gay-rights issues.

Perry, now 34, has grown up a lot since she first emerged on the music scene in 2008 with her hit song, “I Kissed a Girl (And I Liked It).” On Valentine’s Day, she got engaged to film star Orlando Bloom. The two haven’t set a wedding date yet, but both seem to be looking forward to the highly-anticipated nuptials. On Valentine’s Day, Perry posted a picture of her engagement ring with the caption, “Full bloom!”

Orlando Bloom has an eight-year-old son with his ex-wife, model Miranda Kerr. Kerr has said that she and Perry get along great.
