What We Know

Many of the Batman fans are in it for the infamous villain of the franchise, The Joker. The popularity of this comic villain is calling for an origin story film, with reports of a working film title.

That Hashtag Show reports that the Batman villain ‘The Joker’ will operate under the working title “Romeo.” This is leaving many questioning how the film will reference the Joker character with the Shakespeare character.

The untitled Warner Bros. film has ties to Todd Phillips as director with Executive Producer Martin Scorses. The actor said to play the Joker is Joaquin Phoenix, though the actor has yet to confirm his commitment to the role.

Production is rumored to begin by September for possible theater release by late 2019, but has yet to be confirmed. There has yet to be confirmation on the level of creative involvement from Scorsese with reports saying that this will be a low-budget film in the range of $50-55 million.

This movie also marks the possible future of the DC Dark Franchise, including more films about the villains and making films for a predominantly adult market. This new DC film trend was tested in the making of the gritty Gotham-based movie, Suicide Squad, with the sequel in the works. For more on the Joker origin story leak, check out the video above.
