The vacant spot at ABC’s hit talk show “The View” has now been filled. Following Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s departure from the show, Barbara Walters announced that ex-Playboy model turned actress, Jenny McCarthy, will be taking the place of Hasselbeck starting September 9. Elisabeth Hasselbeck recently left the view to join FOX’s new show Fox and Friends. Original cast member Joy Behar is also leaving the show but will not do so until late August. Behar alongside side with Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie created The View back in 1997 and has been one of ABC’s most popular and controversial shows.

McCarthy has appeared on the show over 17 times in the course of the show’s lifespan and will now be a permanent cast member. McCarthy started her career as a Playboy model and then went on to doing television and acting. She had a show on MTV called The Jenny McCarthy Show and a dating show called Singled out. She’s also appeared in movies like Scary Movie 3 and John Tucker Must Die adding to her long list of work. Although what made her famous initially was her spread in Playboy magazine back in 1993, she is most famously known for speaking out against vaccination. Her son with actor John Mallory Asher was diagnosed with autism and she claims that the vaccinations that her son got were what caused it. McCarthy has angered many health related groups and organizations with her claim. There are no studies that prove her claim is correct.

Barbara Walters announced on yesterday’s show that McCarthy would take part of the show and added “Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor,” “She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View.” McCarthy’s much anticipated start on the show will bring a needed change and will surely bring a good chuckle that will make the show more enjoyable.
