Entertainment New With Jennifer Garner Working On “Camping”

Jennifer Garner plays Kathryn Siddell-Bauers, a mom in the new HBO series “Camping,” which is set to air tomorrow at 10 PM. Kathryn is a bit of a control freak in the series. In other words, if everything doesn’t go according to plan, she will start to panic.

Her behavior tends to be cumbersome the people around her. The story takes place in the woods on a camping trip for the 45th birthday of Kathryn’s husband, Walt.

Based on the British comedy series by Julia Davis, the series stars the likes of David Tennant, Janicza Bravo, Arturo Del Puerto, Brett Gelman, Juliette Lewis, and Ione Skye. Lena Dunham the creator of “Girls,” is also the Co-creator of this series as well.

Due to the complexity of this character, it was difficult for Garner to play that character, according to the director, Jenni Konner and Jennifer Garner. “It’s really hard to take the sweetness out of Jen Garner,” Konner said to IndieWire.

During the early stages of filming, Konner felt as if Garner was not getting into her character. They kept telling her that she needed to take it farther. She kept being herself. Even when she believed that she was doing something right, she would still get told no.

“I would try to soften a moment and they would say ‘no’,” Garner said.

Konner understood what Jen was trying to do. She wanted to make Kathryn likable. Konner told Jen that it was too early for Kathryn to be likable, it’s going to happen just not yet.

Konner experience with directing is limited. She has only a done few episodes of “Girls,” prior to working on “Camping.” So she also had to challenge herself.
