The team qualified for the Winter Olympics for the first time since 2002, but lacked the $80,000 needed to actually get to the games. Now they’re asking the world for help via online crowdingfunding platforms.
Crowdfunding to the Rescue?
“We have not come close to covering our costs,”, this was the quote from Chris Stokes, the Jamaican Bobsled federation manager that made it obvious how dire the financial hardships were for the talented team.
The team had been borrowing training equipment, struggling to make ends meet and didn’t even have the proper attire for training.
Now enter crowdingfunding pages set up by the Sochi Olympic hopefuls, as of Tuesday the team managed to meet and surpass their $80,000 goal via donations on their two pages.
To add to the teams good fortune the Jamaican Olympic Association announced that it would cover the teams’s travel costs.
Want to Help?
The team is still continuing to raise money due to the very real life costs that are still anticipated to occur while traveling in order to maintain the optimum condition their athletes and compete in Sochi, Russia.
If you’re compelled to help, then visit one or both of the two links below to go to the bobsled teams crowdfunding pages!
Both pages are managed by the Jamaican Olympic team.
