French Spiderman Scales Heron Tower
Alain Robert, also known as the ‘French Spiderman’ has completed another daredevil stunt by climbing the tallest building in London – without ropes!
The footage emerged on social media that shown the 56 year old climbing the 755ft tall Heron Tower. It is the tallest building within the financial district in London and the third tallest in Britain – after the Shard and 1 Canada Square, both also in London.
Robert has already successfully climbed world landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Empire State Building in New York and the Sydney Opera House.
According to various news outlets, the climb took 50 minutes to climb, using just his bare hands and no safety gear or ropes in sight. Upon reaching the top, he stated that is was a ‘medium’ climb but not ‘easy’.
He predicted before starting the climb that he would be arrested for attempting the climb, he spoke to Sky News, he said: “I am not crazy. What I am doing may seem crazy, but I am not that crazy.” I would beg to differ.
The Frenchmen continued: “If you are shaving or cooking, you can also think about many other things. But when you are climbing, as I am not using any safety devices, when life is at stake, I guarantee that you are focused.”
There was a cheer from the onlooking crowd as Robert waved when he reached the three quarter mark, before he eventually raised his both arms in the air in the celebration following reaching the summit.
It will be interesting to see where his next challenge will take place. It however will not be at The Shard after an injunction was obtained banning the Frenchmen from ever returning to the building.
