Bernie gets more backers for 2020 Election

Two members of “The Squad,” a group of four progressive female representatives in Congress, are endorsing Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, announced her support for Sanders on Tuesday night, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, is expected to follow.

“Bernie is leading a working class movement to defeat Donald Trump that transcends generation, ethnicity, and geography,” Omar said during her endorsement. “That is why he is fighting to cancel all student debt. That is why he is fighting to make all school meals universal. That is why he is fighting for a humane immigration policy that treats immigrants as human beings and not criminals. And it’s why Bernie is fighting to end our forever wars and truly prioritize human rights in our foreign policy — no matter who violates them. And it’s why I believe Bernie Sanders is the best candidate to take on Donald Trump in 2020.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is serving her first term in Congress after running as a Democratic socialist in 2018, worked on Sanders’ first presidential campaign in 2016. Sanders eventually lost the race to Hilary Clinton, but he had a strong following of young people. He is considered a top-tier candidate in the race for the 2020 nomination.

Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan and another member of “The Squad,” is also expected to endorse Sanders.
