Tips To Keep Your Pets Safe From The Heat

As the summer gets hotter, it can get harder to protect your pets from the heat. Here are some tips to ensure that your furry friends stay safe from the suns wrath.

Never leave your pet in a car even on a warm day. Temperature inside the car, even on a slightly warm day, can rise rapidly to dangerous levels. Parked cars are deathtraps for your furry friend. On just a 78 degree day, the temperature could rise to 100 degrees in just minutes.
When walking your dog, ensure to stay away from hot surfaces such as asphalt. It can actually burn the bottom of your pups feet. To test the surface, put the back of your hand on the pavement and if you can keep it there for five seconds, it is safe for your pet to walk on it. But in all cases, try to walk your dog on the grass for it is softer on their paws.

Know the signs of your pet overheating. If your pet is experiencing excessive panting, difficulty breathing or has an increased heart rate and is drooling, get them in a cool place. If it continues, talk to your vet about how to avoid this. If you pet loves being outside, make sure they have access to water and shade at all times. If you want to go to the park, go in the early morning or evening. These times are not as hot and will ensure they won’t overheat.

Your pets are a very important part of your family. Use these tips to keep them safe in the heat.
