Elizabeth Warrens Calls For Presidential Indictment

Earlier this week, Robert Mueller reminded Congress he had no power to charge a sitting president with a crime. Now Democratic Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren says that needs to change, and says she would appoint an Attorney General who would revise the policy.

Warren released a two-part plan addressing the issue on Friday. The first part says Congress should pass an amendment stating that the President is not above the law, and can be charged with crimes in federal courts. The second part of Warren’s plan explains how she would hire an Attorney General to enact the new policy.

“Donald Trump believes that he can violate the law, and he believes that the role of the Department of Justice is to help him get away with it. That’s not how our country is supposed to work,” Warren’s plan states.

On Wednesday, Robert Mueller, leader of the investigation into whether Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 Election, said his work is done and his office will be closing. He said that his report “speaks for itself,” and it’s now time for Congress to act on the information provided.

Many Democrats, including presidential candidates Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, took Mueller’s statements as a “referral for impeachment.” They called on fellow Democrats to start the impeachment process.
