Imagine if every senior took a gap year like this Arkansas teen

Graduating senior Dylan George is taking an alternative route from high school to college. His family had given him and his brother the choice to go to college after graduation or to take the gap year. The gap year option had a catch – the young men must use the year to somehow, someway, help others.

Dylan decided to take up his parents’ offer and take on that responsibility. He wants to travel the country and do volunteer work to help the homeless in some of the most impoverished areas of the United States.

Not only is Dylan offering his service, he plans to learn about the causes and effects of homelessness, working on focusing and organizing a documentary that records his narrative of what he discovers. He expects there will be a lot yet to learn about so many different areas of the nation.

He and his father spent about a year finding a van and renovating it for Dylan to take on his journey. The van is fully equipped with running water and solar-powered energy.

It’s safe to say there aren’t many teens who would spend a year of their life seeking out ways to help others so completely, nor families that would encourage their teens to do so. Dylan’s sincere desire to help others is a true inspiration you don’t see every day.
