According to the USA Today poll, Trump is in the lead

Despite the impeachment proceedings against him, President Trump still leads his top Democratic rivals for the presidency in a new USA Today poll. The poll, released Tuesday, shows that Trump would win by three points against Joe Biden, five points against Bernie Sanders, and eight points against Elizabeth Warren. Trump has an even bigger lead against second-tier Democrat candidates, leading Pete Buttigieg by ten points and Michael Bloomberg by nine.

USA Today pointed out that polls a year ahead of the election aren’t reliable. But the latest poll seems to indicate that the impeachment proceedings aren’t hurting Trump’s re-election prospects.

“Polls taken nearly a year before an election are hardly a reliable indicator about what the eventual outcome will be, especially when the other nominee hasn’t been chosen,” USA Today reported. “But the findings do indicate that impeachment hearings detailing what critics see as Trump’s violations of the Constitution and his oath of office haven’t undermined his core political support.”

Trump cheered the poll results on Twitter, saying they proved that the American people see the impeachment proceedings as a “scam.”

“The new USA Today Poll, just out, has me leading all of the Democrat contenders,” Trump tweeted. “That’s hard to believe since the Fake News & 3 year Scams and Witch Hunts, as phony as they are, just never seem to end. The American people are smart. They see the great economy, & everything else!”
