9/11 Survivor Story
A woman who was visiting New York with her boyfriend has shared an emotional Facebook post about how she was shown into the 9/11 memorial at the site of the former World Trade Center towers by a man who survived the terrorist attacks on 11th September, despite being on the 47th floor!
When arriving at the outside of the museum the couple were introduced to a man named Thomas Canavan. They simply asked him where he was on the day of the events and his response shook them, he responded: “The 47th floor of the North Tower.”
When the tower collapsed, Thomas was forced to crawl through a huge amount of rubble to free himself. He was badly injured and many of his friends were already dead, but he was one of the lucky ones that managed to survive.
He spoke to the couple about what it was really like to be in the towers on that fateful day, and to prove it he told them to find his wristwatch in the museum, and sure enough, there it was. The time of the watch stopped at the exact moment that the towers collapsed.
Kylee posted a heart-warming message on Facebook shortly after their meeting, she said: “The reality you don’t realize at home is that it was desks, file cabinets, elevators and people falling down on him. The little holes in the Towers on TV from the planes were really six stories tall.”
“The magnitude of this tragedy was so much more than most of us can imagine from out television screens. Something that’s hard for us to comprehend.”
Upon exiting the museum, Kylee again found Tom and told him of her admiration for him and her amazement in what he had endured. She continued: “I can only hope he was equally as touched to share his story with us as we were to hear it. When we told him goodbye, I let him know that we would bring his story with us back to the South, which is why I felt compelled to share with you today.”
This amazing story concluded with Kylee saying: “I may never see Tom again, which makes me sad, but every September 11th I will fondly remember him and all of the other men and women who died and lived in the face of pure evil.”
“As always, I am proud to be an American.”
