Booker Raises $5 Million In Funding

Cory Booker’s fundraising for his 2020 Presidential campaign is lagging behind other Democratic primary contenders. An official e-mail to supporters says the New Jersey Senator has raised $5 million since announcing his run two months ago and had over $6 million on hand. The e-mail went out on Sunday, April 7.

Former Texas Representative Beto O’Rourke raised $6.1 million within 24 hours of announcing his run. Former Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ campaign raised $5.9 million in its first day. California Senator Kamala Harris has raised $12 million since she announced she was running for the Democratic nomination three months ago, making her the top fundraiser of the more than 15 Democrats running in the primary.

But Booker says he isn’t discouraged by the numbers. His e-mail stated that he hasn’t taken “a dime” from big-money PACs or powerful federal lobbyists. He says online donations to his campaign average at $34, which shows his support among working-class people of modest means.

“Money is important, but it is definitely not going to be the barometer with which people make their decisions over who’s going to be the next president of the United States,” Booker said. “And I’m happy that we have the resources we need to be in this race.”
