UFC fighter fined for assualt charges

UFC fighter Conor McGregor can’t seem to stay out of legal trouble. Most recently, he pleaded guilty to assaulting a man at a Dublin pub and was fined a little over $1,000 USD.

McGregor did not receive jail time, even though the charges could’ve carried a sentence of up to six months. In court, McGregor’s attorney confirmed that the famous fighter had already agreed to pay the victim an undisclosed amount of money.

The victim did not appear in court to deliver an impact statement. In court, prosecutors revealed that McGregor has 18 criminal convictions on his record, including another assault in 2009. Regardless, McGregor told the judge he was sorry and promised to stay out of trouble.

“What I did was very wrong and I’d like to apologise again to the injured party and today before the court and assure you that nothing of this nature will happen again,” McGregor said.

Last April, McGregor apparently entered a pub in Dublin, went behind the bar, and began passing out whiskey to patrons. When the victim refused, McGregor slammed the glass of whiskey down in front of him–and then punched him in the left side of the face.

During sentencing, McGregor’s attorney said his client “should not be treated any better but certainly not treated any worse.”
