‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Host Supports Contestant Same-Sex Relationship

On Colton Underwood’s season of “The Bachelor,” Demi Burnett ruffled feathers as the bold blonde who had no filter and wasn’t afraid to speak the truth. Now, Demi is getting attention for being one-half of The Bachelor franchise’s first same-sex duo.

However, not everyone was thrilled about Demi’s relationship with another woman, and she received backlash from online haters on social media. Demi clapped back, and also dismissed the idea that The Bachelor should have a spin-off show strictly for same-sex relationships.

“The moment you described the relationship as disgusting is the moment you claimed yourself as homophobic,” Demi tweeted. As for people who suggested The Bachelor should create an LGBT spin-off, she wrote, “I know you’re trying to mean well, however, the goal is for the LGBTQ+ community to not be viewed as separate,” the star wrote. “Saying they need a ‘rainbow Bachelor’ is a bit homophobic. We are all humans. Segregation based on sexuality needs to die.”

But Demi isn’t letting Twitter trolls get under her skin. She has support from her close friend and former “Bachelorette,” Hannah Brown.

“Since the show, a lot has changed for me. I feel very supported by Hannah,” Demi said on the first episode of “Bachelor in Paradise.” “I feel like she’s a friend to me that I can confide in and get a little bit of clarity.”

She also has the support of Bachelor host Chris Harrison, who called Demi’s relationship “a beautiful story.”
