Charlize Theron is “furious” she didn’t address director who harassed her

Actress Charlize Theron says she was sexually harassed by a director at her first audition more than 25 years ago–and she’s still “furious” she did nothing about it. Theron is portraying former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly in the upcoming film Bombshell, about the women at the Fox News Network who decided to expose Fox CEO Roger Ailes for sexually harassing them.

“I didn’t deal with it, and that’s what’s so frustrating,” Theron says of her experience. “You’re just furious with yourself. Why didn’t I just say ‘No’? I speak my mind. How could I be frozen? You blame yourself, and you hate yourself.”

Theron said she could empathize with Kelly and the other women of Fox News who endured harassment from Ailes.

“There are women who went through this day after day, week after week, month after month. It can go on for years,” Theron said. “And ‘nothing has happened’, because the man didn’t touch her. Women don’t always do the right thing. We don’t always handle it the way we should. There’s limited access to opportunities, and those opportunities are only given to the ones who are ‘good soldiers’.”

Earlier this week, Theron was nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Kelly in Bombshell. She said she was honored by the nomination, but called it “ridiculous” that no female directors were nominated for top rewards.
