TV drama Braking Bad and comedy Modern Family top this year’s roost of Primetime Emmy Awardees.

Not a Bad Ending

Breaking Bad, a drama based on a professor gone bad after being diagnosed with a terminal disease, is on its season finale, and there is no better climax to the said show than being presented the Emmys for being television’s best drama series.

The AMC show’s casts were all smiles after the drama was announced as the winner for the said Emmys category.

“Man, I did not see this coming,” show creator Vince Gilligan revealed. “I thought this was gonna be House of Cards, or it could’ve been Homeland, or it could’ve been Mad Men, or it could’ve been Game of Thrones or Downtown Abbey, could’ve been any of ’em, and even some others who were not nominated in this golden age of television that we feel so proud to be a part of.”

On the other hand, Modern Family took home the Emmy statue for being the best comedy series this year – its fourth consecutive win in that category. It also received one Emmy for best directing.

“I cannot begin to express to you how surreal this ride has been, because none of us grew up feeling like winners,” Modern Family creator Steven Levitan stated, clearly over the moon about the turn of events. “So thank you to the bullies, to the popular kids, to the gym teachers who taunted us, who rejected us and who made fun of the way we ran. Without you we never would have gone into comedy!”

For the best mini-series or movie, HBO’s Behind the Candelabra, a Liberace-themed mini-film which tackled about Liberace and his relationship with a younger man, took home the honor along with two others – superb director going to Steven Soderbergh and the lead-actor honors goes to Michel Douglas.

“I hope all the people that deserve to be thanked will understand if I say that no matter what we all did, and no matter how well we did it, and no matter how much support we got, if Michael and Matt (Damon) don’t show up with those performances, we don’t have a movie,” Soderbergh stated in his speech.

Additionally, Michael Douglas had thanked his co-star Matt Damon when he accepted his Emmy trophy.

“You’re magnificent,” he said to his co-star. “And the only reason I’m standing here is because of you, so you really deserve half of this, so do you want the bottom or the top? The top? I figured that.”
