Owen Masterson Celebrates Big Milestone
A baby born without a skull wasn’t expected to survive birth, but little boy Owen Masterson celebrated his first birthday over the weekend.
Doctors said that Owen ‘would not be compatible with life’ after he was born missing the top part of his skull. His parents were overjoyed to prove the medicals wrong as he celebrated his birthday in Missouri.
It was reported by local press that Jessica Masterson gave birth at 24 weeks having been told that the baby probably wouldn’t survive the pregnancy. But defying all odds, Owen was born last October with acalvaria, which is an extremely rare malfunction consisting of the absence of skull an facial bones.
His dad recalled what the medicals said “he will not survive this.” Owen has no skull above his eyebrow and ears to protect his brain.
The condition was first discovered during an ultrasound at 24 weeks with doctors not even certain that Owen has skin covering his brain. Tom continued: “Our pastor had come to the hospital before he was born and was able to pray with us. We felt confident that God was going to do something, that Owen had a specific purpose. We didn’t know what that was. But we felt there was a very specific purpose for him.”
Jessica concluded, by saying: “It’s definitely challenging, but I wouldn’t change him. I love him the way he is.”
