We’re All Guilty of it
You’d be surprised to know that Americans spend nearly $3,000 a year on things that we don’t even need! These things include lotto tickets, impulse shopping, and, of course, eating out. Most Americans dine out twice a week, which is pretty insane.
Even I’m guilty of going out to eat more than eating at home (which I’m working on!) and spending money on things that I don’t necessarily need. But almost $3,000 a year on non-essentials?? I found that hard to believe and thought that maybe it’s time to take my spending and budgeting more seriously.
If you’re concerned about your financial habits, then here are a few ways to save up and not spend too much on things that you don’t need. Take a little bit of money out of your paycheck and put it to the side to save. Take all of your coins and put them in a jar to save; it all adds up.
When it comes to online shopping, give yourself a few days to figure out if those items sitting in your cart are something that you really need or not. Most importantly, cook your meals at home instead of going out for food too often.
I understand we get tired and hungry and McDonald’s sounds like a good place to get some quick food just for today, but don’t do it! Today will turn into tomorrow, and then the next day, and before you know it you’ll have had fast food for the entire week. Eat at home; your wallet will thank you later.
