Over 40% Of Americans Are Scared To Know What Is In Their Hot Dogs

As Memorial Day approaches, people are stocking their cabinets with lots of food to celebrate the beginning of another summer. This obviously includes the American staple, hot dogs. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, especially when it comes to mystery meat on the grill. A recent survey shows that 43% of Americans are scared to know what is in their hot dogs. Around 1,100 adults, 18 and up, were surveyed anything and every thing hot dog related. Over 33% of people avoid hot dogs because they think they are unhealthy because of low quality meat, chemicals, and artificial ingredients. 50% of women are scared to know what is in a hot dog compared to 37% for men.

But it is millennials who avoid hot dogs more than any other age group. Even though a lot of Americans are scared to know what is in their hot dogs, it has not slowed consumption down. Americans consume around 20 million hot dogs every day. So this memorial day, maybe you head for a hamburger instead of the mystery meat we refer to as a hot dog.
