It’s Not Surprising
Amazon has slowly been taking over and redefining the e-commerce world, pushing brick and mortar retail further and further into the past. So, it’s not all that surprising to hear the the company has more than 100 million Prime members. The news was reveled in the form of a letter from CEO Jeff Bezos to shareholders today. Bezos added that Amazon has shipped more than 5 billion items with Prime worldwide. As far as subscription-based services go, this puts Amazon right up there with Netflix and Hulu.
Hulu ended 2017 with more than 17 million subscribers, and Netflix just finished up Q1 with 125 million subscribers worldwide. That puts Amazon Prime subscriptions neck-in-neck with Netflix, the company that redefined what it means to live-stream. But, Amazon does have quite a bit more to offer than Netflix. For starters, Netflix is purely movies, TV shows and entertainment. Amazon is an e-commerce site that allows its Prime members services like two-day shipping on items purchased via Amazon, a massive streaming library of licensed fare and original series, as well as music and more in the works with companies like Whole Foods and Best Buy. The future continues to become brighter for the e-commerce giant.
