Amazon Continues To Expand
Amazon has just finished a huge partnership with Whole Foods, in order to offer better prices for Whole Foods customers. Now, Amazon is branching expanding its already popular streaming offerings. Amazon will reportedly begin selling Pay-Per-View packages for upcoming UFC fights.
The two companies reportedly signed a deal which is set to start with this weekend’s UFC 222. Amazon’s option will offer a one night series of fights for $64.99 to anyone who wants to watch, which is the same price that cable providers charge. However, it is still a hard blow to cable, satellite companies and some streaming services, as some require people to have a subscription to order Pay-Per-View events, while Amazon will not. This will be the first time Amazon will offer a live sports Pay-Per-View event, but the company did stream Thursday night football games last year and is in the bidding to get a multi-year contract with the NFL to stream Thursday Night Football again. Nearly 2 million people logged on to watch the first game.
Amazon is not the only service expanding into live sports. Hulu streamed the 2017 World Series, but ran into some issues when stream crashed in the middle of game four. Additionally, Amazon has been offering members access to a variety of both movies and television series, so adding on the option of purchasing Pay-Per-View items seems like the next logical step.
