Ocasio-Cortez Not Excited By Biden’s 2020 Bid
The congresswoman from New York, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, says the prospect of President Joe Biden doesn’t excite her.
“That does not particularly animate right now,” Ocasio-Cortez told a Yahoo! News podcast. “I can understand why people would be excited by that, this idea that we can go back to the good old days with Obama, with Obama’s vice president. There’s an emotional element to that, but I don’t want to go back. I want to go forward.”
Biden’s potential candidacy has already been plagued by controversy over his alleged habit of inappropriate touching of women over the years. Ocasio-Cortez, however, didn’t have much to say on Biden’s alleged groping during the podcast.
Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described Democratic socialist, worked for Bernie Sanders’ campaign in 2016. She’s not saying who she’s supporting in the crowded Democratic primary contest but remains “very supportive” of Sanders.
“I also think what Elizabeth Warren has been bringing to the table is truly remarkable, truly remarkable and transformational,” Ocasio-Cortez told the podcast.
Ocasio-Cortez also said that she will back the candidate who wins the Democratic nomination, even if the winner is not her first choice.
According to the polling site RealClearPolitics.com, Joe Biden is leading 17 other Democrats in the primary race, although he hasn’t formally announced his run yet. In second place is Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, followed by former Texas representative Beto O’Rourke and California Senator Kamala Harris.
