Huffman Pleads Guilty In “Operation Varsity Blues”

Actress Felicity Huffman pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and bribery related to a high-profile college admissions scandal, dubbed “Operation Varsity Blues” by the FBI.

Huffman faces up to 20 years in prison for her role in the scandal, in which wealthy parents—including former Full House star Lori Loughlin—paid fake charity thousands of dollars to forge their children’s SAT scores and academic records. In return, their children gained admission to prestigious universities, like Yale and the University of Southern California.

In a statement, Huffman said her daughter had no knowledge of the scam.

“I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter, my family, my friends, my colleagues and the educational community. I want to apologize to them and, especially, I want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly,” Huffman said in a statement. “My daughter knew absolutely nothing about my actions, and in my misguided and profoundly wrong way, I have betrayed her. This transgression toward her and the public I will carry for the rest of my life.”

Huffman has not been sentenced yet. However, federal prosecutors are recommending a prison sentence on the “lower end” of the maximum 20 years, as well as a large fine and probation.
