What A Fortunate Accident

A TMZ report confirmed that Rapper 50 Cent, also known as Curtis Jackson III, made millions in bitcoin after accepting the cryptocurrency for his 2014 album “Animal Ambition.” In an Instagram post, 50 Cent said that he “forgot” about the bitcoin payments, which sat in his account for four years and are now worth between $7 million and $8.5 million.

In a since-deleted post, 50 Cent shared a screenshot of the TMZ article on Instagram, with a caption that read, “Not bad for a kid from South Side, I’m so proud of me.” After reportedly leaving his account unused for years, he says, “Ima keep it real, I forgot I did that shit lol.” The cryptocurrency bitcoin has had an unprecedented leap in value over the past several months, at one point reaching a price of $17,000 per bitcoin.

When 50 Cent had taken a chance on the cryptocurrency and been accepting the payment for his album, each bitcoin was only worth around $662. He says he did it to “stay with the times” and earned around $450,000 in bitcoin at the time. The rapper, who is interested in technology, made a choice that became quite lucrative. He has not stated whether he will cash out any time soon. Another investment risk the rapper took and made a large amount of money on was when he invested in Vitamin Water and made around $100 million when Coca-Cola purchased the beverage brand in 2007.
