Inside The Mind Of A Professional Driver

Ford epitomizes motivation with their Psychology of Performance video. If it doesn’t make you want to conquer all of you goals, having you on the edge of your seat, we don’t know what will.

S├ębastien Ogier is a 5x FIA World Rally Champion. If anyone knows about performing under mass amounts of pressure, it’s someone like him. He says the time you are pushed is the time you give your best. Pressure creates results. We get to hear from other professional race car drivers who describe what it takes to perform in a peak state. Not thinking, just simply doing, seems to be a key theme here. Dr. Elias Mouchlianitis is a neuroscience researcher at King’s College London. His take on driving as a career is backed by a lot of research and includes the complexities of how the mind works.

“Driving is a very very demanding cognitive process,” Dr. Mouchlianitis says.

Driving is about so much more than just the car itself. There are distractions around every turn, literally. Ford decided to figure out what exactly is going on in the mind when someone is driving. They used an EEG machine to test brain activity and it showed how people performed after mental preparation. Using breathing techniques and visualization, the study found well, you will have to watch to find out!
