The Latest Automotive Technology Has Arrived

It’s cool to think about how people in the mid-century might imagine how we would live today… like retro futurism! You have to love that hopeful architecture of the 1950s, do you remember those buildings that look like spaceships? And, believe it or not, architecture design wasn’t the only futuristic thing going on during this time period! Automobile designs were inspiring too, and you can thank a man named Harley Earl for that.

Harley Earl was an American automotive designer and business executive. He was the initial designated Head of Design at General Motors (later becoming Vice President) and the first top executive ever appointed in design of a major corporation in American history. He used clay to create concept cars and that’s what really sparked his automotive imagination.

Just picture being stuck in traffic… do you ever wonder what it would be like in the future, with fly cars etc.? Well, GM once created a movie that featured a family on vacation stuck in traffic wondering what the future would be like. The film features the family sitting in an older model car just wondering what the future holds… what the family really wanted was a well connected car and their vision has come true, all thanks to OnStar technology!

OnStar features services that allow the user to press a button and instantly have the ability to speak to a real person who can help them find places to eat, sleep, or even get repairs done while out on the road. With OnStar your car can offer you alerts when natural disasters or inclimate weather are ahead and give you alternative routes to your destination. It’s truly incredible to think about how far we have come over the last 60 years and we can only imagine where cars are heading in the future!
